Die Schule

Die Sekundarschule I.E.S de la Plata in Guijuelo ist eine allgemeinbildende Gesamtschule mit den Klassen der Mittel- und Oberstufe. Die 920 Schüler sind nach der Altersgruppe (12-14, 14-16 und 16-18 Jahre) auf drei Gebäude aufgeteilt. Bis 16 Jahre muss in Spanien die Schule besucht werden, danach kann man arbeiten gehen, eine berufliche Schule besuchen oder das Abitur machen. An der I.E.S de la Plata kann man das Abitur in den Richtungen Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft, Naturwissenschaft und Technik ablegen. Die Schulleiterin Elena Montejo González wird von 78 Lehrkräften unterstützt.
Die Gemeinde Guijuelo liegt ca. 50 km von der Universitätsstadt Salamanca entfernt unweit der Sierra de Gredos. 5360 Einwohner leben in der auf die Verarbeitung von Schweinefleisch spezialisierte Gemeinde. 80% des hochwertigen iberischen Schinkens und viele Wurstarten werden in und mit Hilfe von über 200 Klein- und mittelständischen Unternehmen produziert. Die Nachfrage nach Arbeitskräften ist groß, in Guijuelo herrscht zur Zeit Vollbeschäftigung.

The College

Our Spanish partner institution, the secondary school I.E.S de la Plata in Guijuelo is a comprehensive school. The 920 students are housed in three different buildings according to their age (12-14, 14-16, 16-189: Spanish students finish their compulsory education at the age of 16. Then they can go to work directly, attend a vocational college or take their A-levels. At I.E.S de la Plata you can choose between three types of A-levels – one with the emphasis on humanities and economics, one with the emphasis on sciences and another focusing on technical subjects. The headmaster Mrs Elena Montejo González is supported by 78 teachers.
The small town of Guijuelo is situated about 50 kilometres north-west of Salamanca, the old city of universities. Spectacular views of the Sierra de Gredos are possible on the way. 5360 inhabitants live in Guijuela, a town specializing in pork processing. 80% of the excellent ham iberico and a huge variety of pork sausages are manufactured in and with the help of more than 200 small and medium sized companies. The demand for work is immense in Guijuelo right now and there is no unemployment at the moment.
